Since the 1500's independent travellers and explorers have used Swellendam as the gateway between Cape Town and the South African interior or Garden Route. The historical town of Swellendam is the third oldest town in South Africa and is rich in heritage and remains a popular stop over, allowing travellers the opportunity to relax, reflect, recharge and enjoy the many attractions and activities. Nestled below the Langeberg Mountains, this beautiful region has much to offer Cape Equine Therapy students.

The region has a predominantly Mediterranean climate with a sun filled Summer (Avg Temperature 25°C) and Winter brings the possibility of snow on the Langeberg Mountain top (Avg  Temperature 15°C).

Barrydale Wine and Brandy Cellars - Wine Tastings and Tours including the famous Joseph Barry Potstil Brandy
Bontebok National Park - Bontebok Antelope, other small buck species and 126 different bird species.
Buffelsjagsdam Sundowner Cruise - Buffelsjagsdam offers slide rides, canoeing, water skiing and barge cruises.
Whale Watching At Cape Infanta - At the mouth of the Breede River is the Whale nursery of the Cape.
Drostdy Museum Complex - Swellendam of 18th and 19th century is housed in several historic buildings.
Hermitage Young berry Farms - Swellendam is the largest Young berry region in South Africa. Liqueur tasting at Distillery.
Malgas Ferry - The hand-drawn pontoon over the Breede River is the last remaining pont in South Africa.
Marloth Nature Reserve - Various day walks and hiking trails amongst the abundance of wild flowers and fynbos.
Sanbona Wildlife Reserve - First reserve in Western Cape to re-introduce cheetahs and lions as well as the Big 5.
