The talent of Equine Massage Therapy is hands-on bodywork where you learn to feel where movement is hindered and release it. Your head learns what's needed, your hands become skilled energy tools to facilitate change to truly make a difference in the life of these wonderful creatures.
Every rider wants a calm, content, horse that is supple and willing to move kindly and powerfully at work and at liberty. But injuries, conformation, disposition, bad habits and unbalanced riding prevent most horses from performing at the top of their game. Skillful massage can help horses overcome these challenges thereby promoting health and actualizing the fluid and powerful athletic potential inherent in each horse. To achieve this the body worker must know horse anatomy form and function and be able to read their mental and emotional state in order to anticipate responses.
To understand what you're working on you must be able to visualize a horse's anatomy - not just what's under the skin, but how the muscles move the bones that move the horse. We begin with sorting out the physiology and anatomy of how horses move one piece at a time. When we're massaging the neck we study the muscles that mobilize the neck. When we're learning how to work the back we study the boney structures and muscles that support the spine. Instead of just memorizing muscles this dynamic and functional anatomy approach enables you to visualize the horse in its true three dimensional form and develop ideas of what to work towards.
